Woman faces drug, child endangerment charges

As detailed in a recent news report, a 30-year-old New York woman was pulled over by police for allegedly driving while talking on her cellphone. Police talked to the woman, who had her two infant children in the car with her. This seemingly routine traffic stop eventually resulted in drug charges being filed against her.

After the police conducted their interview, they felt they were justified in looking further into the woman's car. There they allegedly found 1.5 grams of cocaine that the officers deduced she intended to sell. They subsequently arrested the woman on the drug charges of possession of a controlled substance. She was also issued a citation for using her cellphone while driving and with two counts of endangering the welfare of the children.

Although it is not certain that the woman intended to sell the cocaine, just the fact that police allegedly found it in her vehicle was enough to place her under arrest on drug charges. Like every other citizen of New York, she is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The woman was arraigned in city court and is in a correctional facility in lieu of $1,000 or $2,000 bond. A relative is currently taking care of her two children.

It would be in her best interest and likely the best interest of her children for her to seek out legal defense. A strong, experienced attorney can help her to understand the drug charges that were laid against her and to help her understand the potential repercussions of them.
