"Suspicious" car leads to arrest of man for drug possession

Out-of-state police recently arrested a 28-year old Buffalo man on multiple counts of drug possession after they noticed an occupied vehicle inside a private parking lot. A search of the man turned up about 44 grams of marijuana. Police then obtained a search warrant for the vehicle, which was a rental car that the man did not own. The police discovered 103 additional grams of marijuana, as well as 2 grams of crack cocaine, drug packaging materials, $1,022, and an allegedly stolen handgun. The man was arrested and charged on multiple counts of drug possession, as well as carrying a firearm without a license. An investigation determined that the man had a previous felony drug conviction in New York, and he is currently being held in lieu of $125,000 bail.

This case is an example of how those involved in drug cases are also typically charged with other crimes. The man in this case is alleged to have stolen a handgun and a magazine, which qualifies as larceny. Those involved in drugs will frequently be accused of burglaries, robberies, and thefts in order to support their drug habit or to obtain money for their enterprise.

Drug trafficking involves the shipment of illicit drugs from one locality to another and the sale of the drugs..It is prosecuted both at the state and federal level, and the severity of the sentence depends on the type of drug, the geographic area of the distribution, and whether or not children were targeted for sale.

Anyone charged with drug possession or trafficking is entitled to a vigorous criminal defense and a presumption of innocence until guilt is proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The defendant has the constitutional right to question witnesses, challenge the admissibility of evidence, and dispute the legality of the search and seizure of the illegal drugs. Anyone accused of a drug offense has the legal right to fight for a vindication of their innocence in a court of law.
