Staten Island teens face murder charges in deliveryman shooting

Criminal charges are serious accusations that have the possibility of serious consequences if the accused is convicted, whether that person is in New York or somewhere else in the country. When the charges include accusations of violent crimes, the accused should act quickly to address the charges in a timely manner.

Three teenagers in Staten Island were recently charged after allegedly fatally shooting a deliveryman that worked for a Chinese restaurant. According to the New York Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. when a resident found a 50-year-old New Jersey man on a local street. The man was transported to the hospital but pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Surveillance videos and interviews led detectives to the teenage suspects. They allegedly called in a food order and then accosted the victim where the food order was to be delivered. One suspect supposedly held a gun to the man as the other suspects rifled through his pockets. When the deliveryman jumped back, the gun went off and the man was shot. The arrested teenagers claim the shooting was unintentional.

The deliveryman had more than $100 in his pockets when he was taken to the hospital.

Area residents say the street has a history of trouble for people making deliveries. Among other charges, the teenagers have been charged with second-degree murder.

Violent crime charges are significantly more serious when possession of a firearm or assault with a deadly weapon is included. Any New York resident facing such charges should immediately guidance and assistance to begin building a strong defense.

An experienced professional will be able to challenge evidence, including problems with surveillance footage, witness accounts and other evidence that might lead to the charges against a defendant being dismissed. Coming up with the best defense strategy will ensure their rights are protected and their interests preserved.
