New York man charged with felony DWI

No matter what crime an individual has been accused of, it is never a good idea to run from authorities. Running can be seen as presumptive of guilt, even if the person flees out of fear and not because a crime has actually been committed. In any case, trying to elude police can certainly make a bad situation worse, which one New York man recently discovered when he was arrested and charged with DWI.

Authorities claim that a 911 call was placed on June 5. The caller explained that an intoxicated man was attempting to drive a Jaguar in a parking lot. After this call, officers headed to the area described. The police claim that once they arrived, the suspect drove off and refused to pull his vehicle over. This chase purportedly lasted four miles until the suspect eventually failed to negotiate a turn and crashed his vehicle into some trees and a rock wall.

The man was transported to the Southampton Hospital where he was treated and later released. After that, he was arrested.

Due to the fact that he had three previous DWI convictions, he was charged with a felony count of driving while intoxicated. He was also charged with a number of misdemeanor crimes, including reckless driving, unlawful fleeing from a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree.

This case may serve as a reminder to our readers in the White Plains area. Rather than taking their chances by running from authorities, individuals who believe they are about to be charged with a crime should stand up and assert their rights in a legal context. It is also important to remember that one of the greatest of those rights is the right to remain silent.
