Two New York men arrested for possessing cocaine and heroin

Police in Verplanck, New York recently arrested two men, an 18-year old and a 20-year old, for possessing illegal drugs. The drug charges included misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of a hypodermic instrument. Both men were arrested at the same time in Peekskill, New York. The 18-year-old man was accused of possessing heroin, and the 20-year-old man of possessing cocaine, according to New York State Police.

Prosecutors say drug traffickers used bank to launder money

Recently, federal authorities investigated the use of the international banking group HSBC by a group of NYC men accused of trafficking in drugs. The men were additionally accused of laundering money, and the investigation ultimately resulted in a $1.9 billion settlement between the bank and the federal government.

NY man charged with drug possession after parking on the freeway

Recently, police in Glendon, Pennsylvania arrested a Brooklyn, New York man for drug possession after finding his car stopped in the middle of the freeway and finding cocaine inside his car. The man's car was parked and running in the middle of the eastbound lane of I-78, obstructing traffic. The man was found in a stupor, with a white powder near his nostrils. Police also found a baggie with white powder inside, as well as straws, cash, and what was suspected to be cocaine, heroin, and meth. Law enforcement arrested the man on drug charges, specifically, drug possession, possessing drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, and careless driving. The man was treated for a possible drug overdose, and was held on $250,000 bail.

Grandmother arrested for smuggling drugs to grandson

Police recently arrested a 69-year-old grandmother from Albion, New York, for attempting to smuggle marijuana and cocaine to her incarcerated grandson. The woman's specific drug charges include conspiracy and promoting dangerous prison contraband. The woman's grandson faced the same charges. Both the woman and her 28-year-old grandson have pleaded not guilty to the charges. According to the local authorities, the woman was caught on two previous occasions attempting to smuggle drugs to her grandson while he was incarcerated at Attica State Prison. Officials have since transferred him to a different prison in upstate New York.

Upstate New York man appears in court for drug possession charges

Recently, a 19-year-old man residing in Lindenhurst, New York, was charged with felony drug possession. The man's arrest stems from an incident in September 2012, when the man was arrested along with a partner and charged with possession of cocaine. The man's companion was also charged with drug possession and made his first court appearance at the same time as the man. Both men are charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree and the misdemeanor of criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree. The case is currently adjourned until the end of October.

New York Doctor accused of killing patients with painkillers

A New York physician was recently indicted for allegedly causing the deaths of two Long Island men through the excessive prescription of painkillers. Both the doctor and his assistant were indicted on drug charges in U.S. District Court.

Marijuana kingpin charged with additional crimes

A New York man labeled as a "marijuana kingpin" has been charged with five felonies by Manhattan prosecutors. The man allegedly ran a million-dollar marijuana smuggling ring that smuggled tons of marijuana from Florida and California into New York. The man and three other members of the smuggling ring were originally arrested in October 2010 on drug charges as part of a federal takedown known as Operation Green Venom. Prosecutors charged the alleged kingpin with the murder of five men while overseeing the drug ring. They also charged him with five attempted murders, as well as obstruction of justice, money laundering and drug trafficking.

Prosecutors indict fifteen people in a drug ring bust

Recently, over fifteen people in central New York were indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to smuggle cocaine into the United States. The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to smuggle millions of dollars' worth of cocaine into the country. The conspiracy was detected by law enforcement using wiretaps on the defendants' phones, although it is unclear whether or not the wiretaps were supported by a warrant or by probable cause.
